At a Glance

There’s no doubt about it — Alaska’s wilderness and wildlife are two of the greatest treasures in America’s “Last Frontier.” Join scientists and local experts for an up-close look at the animals that call Alaska home during this live, online learning adventure! Get an “eagle-eye view” of the rehabilitation and conservation of Bald Eagles during a virtual field trip to the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka, and learn about Alaska’s marine life during an online visit to the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward. Beginning in the Arctic and journeying south through Alaska to the Southeast, see dramatic changes in wildlife as the habitats change. Get insight into topics like glaciation, plate tectonics, and extreme daylight and darkness during expert-led lectures. From polar bears and muskox in the North to brown bears, bald eagles and humpback whales in the South, get to know your fellow Road Scholars as you learn about Alaska’s wildlife and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime.

Best of all, you’ll…

  • Get a first-hand look into the conservation and rehabilitation of Bald Eagles during a virtual field trip to the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka.
  • View a Stellar sea lion, ringed seal, spotted seal and several pelagic birds as you learn about efforts to protect these animals at the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward.
  • Meet an Interior entomologist who will introduce you to the miniscule pollinators that decide whether or not a grizzly will have cubs in the spring.
