While waiting for their streetcar, commuters activate a digital archive of historical photos, film vignettes, and proposed development renderings all specific to the location of their stop.

Repurposing smartphone technology traditionally used to entertain or advertise, this project will produce a mobile application that curates arts and humanities materials for users passing through transit stations. Totem uses stops along Seattle’s planned First Hill streetcar alignment as venues of installation and opportunities to reconfigure everyday attitudes and approaches towards urban and community planning.
